PIPO X10 Review: a hybrid between TV Box and Tablet

The Chinese company PIPO Technology is a company specialized in tablets for all needs and customers. This time, PIPO surprises us with a new TV Box – Tablet hybrid. Is not the first device of this brand that fusions tablets and TV boxes; in fact, there are two previous models, PIPO X8 and PIPO X9, that share the same concept. Due to this revolutionary fusion, the PIPO X10 offers a wide range of options for users.

This model, PIPO X10, has a new feature: it has a built-in battery with a huge capacity, we are talking about 10.000 mAh, that allows to this device full autonomy. There are other highlights that, compared to previous versions, only mean improvement. This device has a better processor; the Intel Cherry Trail Z8300, the screen is bigger and has a better resolution. Regarding RAM, it was changed from 2GB in previous models to 4GB in PIPO X10, the storage capacity is up to 64GB. Another difference from previous models is the incorporation of a small fan for an active heat dissipation. The operating system remains in this device; it runs Windows 10.

The PIPO X10 tablet PC is available only in black. Dimensions are 255 x 173 x 70 mm and it weighs 1020 g. Even though it looks like a tablet, it is not as portable as a normal tablet but the size still makes this device easy to carry. The body is made of plastic, except for the bottom part which is made of metal.

The PIPO X10 tablet PC has a 10.8-inch IPS screen, and as the previous versions, it maintains a good quality. This model has an HD screen, 1920 x 1280 pixels of resolution and supports 1080 p. The only problem with the screen is brightness. The maximum bright is 205 lux, so it works great if you use it in dark room but in lit spaces, the reflection can cause some problems. You should keep this in mind when using the tablet PC. Regarding sensitivity, the screen has an acceptable level of sensitivity, it responses quickly to touch and it supports G+G multi-touch.

As the previous versions of the PIPO X10, all the ports and buttons are located at the back and at the right side of the device.

On the right side, we can find the power button, volume button, a LED light that indicates when the device is on, two USB ports (2.0 and 3.0), an earphone jack and a speaker. On the left side, it only has one speaker.

At the back of the PIPO X10 we can find the WiFi antenna, a reset button, a microSD card slot, two 2.0 USB ports, an HDMI port, an RJ45 LAN port and a 5V/3A DC power port.

At the front it is very simple, it only has a touch button with the Windows logo and the bottom part has a metallic rack that helps to dissipate the heat.

Dual OS: Pre-installed Windows 10 & Android 5.1

The PIPO X10, like the previous models of the brand, comes with a Windows 10 Home 64bits original license and Android 5.1. Right after turning on the tablet PC you can choose between the two OS.

Managing the Windows interface from the screen is quite convenient by activating tablet mode, it is quite comfortable; however, there are times when it is difficult to click to close a window or position ourselves in a certain point on the screen. Here you can see that Android is more suitable for touch screens. Although it is not essential, it is advisable to connect a keyboard and mouse if we want to get the most out of the device.

Android 5.1 OS is fast and stable in this device, with a redesigned user interface built around a design language known as “Material design”, avails the access to over 800,000 apps including Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and more.

Intel Cherry Trail Z8300

The PIPO X10 carries the Cherry trail Z8300 Quad Core CPU, it has an average performing CPU with a maximum clock speed of 1,440.00 MHz. The 4 core(s), provides this device an extremely efficient multi-tasking performance when compared to dual-core processors. You can do several activities on this tablet PC and the performance will be still good.

One of the novelties of this PIPO X10, compared to its predecessors, is the battery. According to the manufacturer’s specifications, it has a capacity of 10,000 mAh that provides a long time in standby mode. A full charge takes about 3.5 – 4 hours. Once charged, Windows tells us that we have about 6 hours of use. During normal browsing, using Office and no games the battery lasts 4 hours.

Temperature and Heat dissipation

This model has an incorporated fan that previous versions didn’t have. According to tests, this new feature keeps the temperature at an acceptable level, we are talking about 75 degrees at full load. This value is very good, because in PIPO X8 and PIPO X9 the temperature was higher at full load due to the lack of a fan. Even though the fan helps to avoid processor slowdown due to the heat, the noise that it generates can be a little bit annoying in very quiet spaces, but this is not something that will prevent you from enjoying music or videos.

Inside the box

  • 1 x PiPO X10 TV Box
  • 1 x Charger
  • User guide (only in Chinese)
  • Warranty card

In brief, the PIPO X10 tablet PC seems an all-in-one device. If you connect it to a TV, this is a Windows TV box; connect it to a monitor, this is a mini PC and if you use it alone, this is a desktop tablet. If you decide to purchase this tablet PC, it is available on AliExpress for only US $ 226,99.
