In the era of smartphones, there are some manufacturers that still design feature phones. And those companies are widely known. Say, recently, the Nokia 8110 packed with modest features and sporting an ‘outdated’ form-factor was released in Taiwan. A couple of days ago, something like that happened in China. When Xiaomi launched a crowdfunding campaign for the Qin series feature phones, many didn’t believe they will reach the goal set. But the Xiaomi Qin 1 and Xiaomi Qin 1S are real and they were officially unveiled at a starting price of 199 yuan, which is equivalent to Rs 2,000 or $29. But no need to think about these devices as useless phones. They are powered by Android and support, 4G, WiFi, and AI capabilities.
Both models sport a 2.8-inch screen with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. Below the screen, we can see a T9 keypad. The overall dimensions are 132 x 53.8 x 8.5 mm. As for rest of the design elements, the Xiaomi Qin 1 and Xiaomi Qin 1S come with a speaker grill at the bottom, and there’s also no cameras whatsoever on either of the feature phones. They also support dual SIM cards.
As we can guess, the Xiaomi Qin 1 is more modest than its sibling. It is packed with a MediaTek MT6260A chip. Actually, it uses a single ARM A7 core and it is paired with an 8MB of RAM and 16MB of onboard storage. Unfortunately, THIS device has no 4G connectivity option. But even if it was there, what will you do with it? On the other hand, it supports WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2. Under the hood, it also carries a 1480mAh battery that should provide you up to 15 hours of talk time and 420 hours of standby time on a single charge. The charging is done via the USB Type-C port. It runs on Android-based Nucleus OS.
The Xiaomi Qin 1S supports 4G VoLTE just like the JioPhone. It is also powered by a Spreadtrum SC9820 chipset clocking in at 1.2 GHz with a slightly larger 256MB RAM and 512MB of internal storage. In addition, it comes with GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi and USB Type-C. The phone runs on Mocor 5 OS based on Android. This software is able to perform AI functions like real-time voice translation in 17 different languages and answer several queries.
Both smartphones will be available in Iron Gray and Porcelain White. But there are no information whether the Xiaomi Qin 1 and Xiaomi Qin 1S will appear on other markets or not.
